A Biography of Nurten Ural

Ms. Nurten Ural is an interior designer and owns Ural Interiors, Inc., an interior design company. She also owns Ural Properties, LLC, leasing and managing company for commercial and residential properties. Nurten holds a Real Estate License and a Builders License in the State of Michigan. Ms. Ural is now serving as President-Elect of the Assembly of Turkish American Associations (ATAA), a national organization and serves as President and Founder of “Peace in the World” Initiative. In 2004 Ms. Ural was appointed Honorary Consul General of Turkey for the State of Michigan.

Nurten received her Bachelor of Science degree in Human Environment and Design from Michigan State University. She also completed her Master of Fine Arts degree in Human Shelter and Interior Design at Michigan State University. She has taken many classes on Business, Marketing, Architecture, Building Construction and Property Management at various Universities. She has taught classes and seminars on Business and Interior Design.

Ms. Ural has been involved in numerous business, community, charity and non-profit organizations as a member, and in serving on their committees and boards. Some of these include American Society of Interior Design, Institute of Business Design, National Association of Women Business Owners, Woodcreek Homeowners Association, Farmington/Farmington Hills Chamber of Commerce, Livonia Chamber of Commerce, Republican Club, Farmington Exchange Club, Construction Association of Michigan, Special Olympics, Professional Women’s Roundtable Groups and many other professional and cultural organizations.

Nurten has made a significant impact on those in the community through her unending commitment. She has contributed through donations of products, monetary, and services. Her great accomplishments include receiving the 1998 Athena Award, Business Accomplishment Award, serving on the Board of two Chamber of Commerces, serving as Vice Chair and Chair of the Board of Directors on the Farmington/Farmington Hills Chamber of Commerce, serving as treasurer and President on the Board of Directors of TACAM (Turkish-American cultural Association of Michigan), serving as President-Elect, Vice President on the Board of Directors of ATAA (Assembly of Turkish-American Associations) , serving on the Board of Directors at the Longacre House and on the Board of the Woodcreek Homeowners Association.

In addition to being a successful business owner, Nurten is a wonderful role model for those in her community. She continues to lend her expertise and actively supports many others to start their own businesses or gives them advice to make their business more successful or support their other professional needs.

Nurten is also a big supporter of professional women. She has initiated and leads three Professional Women’s Round Table groups. These are support groups for professional women to access resources they need to succeed and reach their goals. Through this group, they help each other personally and professionally.

Despite, Ms. Ural’s busy schedule with her business and community activities she finds time to help around the world. When her father passed away several of years ago, her family and Nurten decided to build a memorial in her father’s name in the little village that he was born in, in Crimea – Ukraine. The little village had no praying facilities for the people. The people are very poor there to build any kind of building. So her family and Nurten built a mosque for the people of the village. It was completed in spring of 2001.

Soon after the big Earthquake had hit Turkey in August of 1999 that killed tens of thousands of people, Nurten lead a campaign for the Turkish Earthquake Relief Effort. Through her leadership, tons of blankets, coats, hospital equipment and many needed things were collected and sent to the victims. Also, enough funds was collected to build an eight-classroom elementary school in the middle of the Earthquake area. The school has been completed and the students started school in September of 2000.

Nurten is single and lives in her home in Farmington Hills: she spends her free-time golfing, biking, traveling, entertaining and dabbling in real estate.
